Old macdonald had a farm - Article on child-centered activities help to keep your baby smart

Instead of teaching reading and focusing on school-based skills such as at age four and coming to age five, I teach the following:

Love animals and nature

I give her out when possible. Walk around the lake to show some animals, lotuses, plants, birds ... My house cat, so I let him play with cats, take care of cats.

I read and explained to her what the Earth was, how the plants grew, how the animals lived, why endangered species, plastic bags and how much harm the environment had. Only see the seals that are about to be eaten by the polar bears, as the baby has protested, wanting to protect the seals.

Be courteous and respect the people around you

Instead of just teaching me hello, I teach my children to respect everyone, whether they are babies or old people. I teach my children to thank them, excuse everyone, talk small when they are out, throw the waste in the right place, do not take the wrong things, queue when charging or wait to the toilet. I teach my child if he wants to ask for help, he must speak softly, full sentences.

When talking to others, do not use the phone or the electronic equipment. My family is also limited to using iPad for about an hour a day, and will not allow the use of a smart phone until he is older.

Learning self-reliance and responsibility

I encourage my child to do things he or she can do on his or her own, from simple things: walking on shoes, taking shoes, putting toys on, picking books, watering plants, picking up chopsticks, removing dirty clothes into the laundry basket

Love, share and accept

I encourage and explain to him why he should share with you or you. I do not always follow, but I do not blame it, but wait until she is calm to talk to her to help her analyze the situation.

Having children is also very beneficial for your baby. She has the opportunity to learn how to share everyday and help me when I ask. I help her understand if she is not perfect, I still love her, but that does not mean that I agree with him when she behaved unreasonable.

The lyrics of this song have been translated in plenty of languages such as Chinese, Danish, etc. However, it is still sung as a children's song to the same tune.
This song has a lot of versions. And we will find more about them.

versions of old macdonald had a farm

The earliest known of "Old macdonald had a farm" is the version in 1917 book Tommy's Tunes:

Old Macdougal had a farm in Ohio-i-o,
And on that farm he had some dogs in Ohio-i-o,
With a bow-wow here, and a bow-wow there,
Here a bow, there a wow, everywhere a bow-wow.

Two of these variants were released in Vance Randolph's Ozark Folksongs in 1980. One was "Old Missouri" published in 1922, a version that names various parts of the mule rather than various animals:

Old Missouri had a mule, he-hi-he-hi-ho,
And on this mule there were two ears, he-hi-he-hi-ho.
With a flip-flop here and a flip-flop there,
And here a flop and there a flop and everywhere a flip-flop
Old Missouri had a mule, he-hi-he-hi-ho.

Another version of the song, called "The Farmyard" was collected in 1908 from a 74-year-old Mrs. Goodey at Marylebone Workhouse, London:

Up was I on my fa-ther's farm
On a May day morn-ing ear-ly;
Feed-ing of my fa-ther's cows
On a May day morn-ing ear-ly,
With a moo moo here and a moo moo there,
Here a moo, there a moo, Here a pret-ty moo.
Six pret-ty maids come and gang a-long o' me
To the mer-ry green fields of the farm-yard.

The earliest recorded member of this family of songs is a number from an opera named The Kingdom of the Birds, published in 1719-1720:

In the Fields in Frost and Snows,
Watching late and early;
There I keep my Father's Cows,
There I Milk 'em Yearly:
Booing here, Booing there,
Here a Boo, there a Boo, every where a Boo,
We defy all Care and Strife,
In a Charming Country-Life.

Old Macdonald Had A Farm Book Reviews

Old Macdonald Had A Farm book reviews - Right, so you know all the words to Old Macdonald had a farm? It? You think you know most of them, or roughly how it goes, but probably not in the right order? Ok, so you know that there's a lot of Ee and Ee, but apart from that you just try and look as though you're singing - and smile a lot? I have just got the book that you need and it got some rather clever holes in it.

old-macdonald-had-a-farm-book-reviews

Old Macdonald Had A Farm is one of songs that builds up with each repetition, so you have to be paying attention, or be a small child. A small child who's paying attention is going to be unbeatable. On the first page we find that Old Mac (as he is known to his friends for the purpose of this review) has a dog and wow that dog. On the opposite page there is a picture of a farm with a hole right up to the back which shows the dog. Turn the page over and the hole which reveals the dog now reveals what he said, but now of course, we're on to the sheep - with more noises and more holes in the page.

Sounds complicated? No - it's one of those things which is not easy to describe but which is very obvious when you see it. It's clever, but it's definitely not complicated. Work your way through the book and you will have a collection of animals, animal noises and not a lot of friends - but give it a child and you are going to have a lot of fun. There is an opportunity for lots of play acting and lots of shouting. In fact, if you have not got a child handy, you really ought to find one.

It's a Child's Play book, so the quality is good, with clear printing and glorious illustrations which leave something else for you to find each time you look. The paper is thick enough to stand quite a lot of handling, despite the cut-outs.

We've seen several books in the series - There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Five Little Ducks and The Wheels. They are all of the same quality and great fun for you and your children.

You can get some of these books on Kindle - but do not understand how can you poke your fingers through the holes?

I'd like to thank the publisher for sending a copy to the Bookbag.

We've just seen another copy of The Wheels on the Bus. That's great fun too.

In the 1917 book Tommy's Tunes, a collection of World War I era songs by F. T. Nettleingham, the song "Ohio" has quite similar lyrics—though with a slightly different farmer's name and refrain:

Old Macdougal had a farm in Ohio-i-o,
And on that farm he had some dogs in Ohio-i-o,
With a bow-wow here, and a bow-wow there,
Here a bow, there a wow, everywhere a bow-wow.

Two of these variants were published in Vance Randolph's Ozark Folksongs in 1980. One was "Old Missouri", performed by a Mr. H. F. Walker of Missouri in 1922, a version that names different parts of the mule rather than different animals:

Old Missouri had a mule, he-hi-he-hi-ho,
And on this mule there were two ears, he-hi-he-hi-ho.
With a flip-flop here and a flip-flop there,
And here a flop and there a flop and everywhere a flip-flop
Old Missouri had a mule, he-hi-he-hi-ho.
